Tartan + Berets for the Holidays

Winter and holiday styling adds a new level of enjoyment and enthusiasm when I’m figuring out looks for clients and myself. Today’s outfit is a mashup of French (beret), Scottish (tartan scarf) and SoCal (the rest) fashions. Using a monochromatic foundation like I have with my creamy white H&M eyelash knitted sweater, J. Crew wool pants and Zara heels – my red colored accessories were used as my showstopper pop of color while highlighting the seasonal spirit of Southern California.

If you haven’t already gotten the 4-1-1, Tartan and berets are making a comeback this season. Frankly, they are classics and can be worn every year, especially if you stick to classic colors like red. Tartan, better known as “plaid” derived from Scotland and was originally made of wool used for kilts and blankets. Scarves, ponchos, berets even a Peacoat, are great ways to incorporate Tartan into your wardrobe.

While doing my final rounds of Christmas shopping, I perused the hat section in Nordstrom. I wanted to see if  I could find different styles of berets. There were only two left. I guess the ladies of San Diego got the beret making a comeback memo. I couldn’t resist trying both of them on, one in deep amethyst the other in soft camel. Loved both and would’ve bought the camel colored beret (again a classic color) but who knows what Christmas gifts are waiting for me under the tree.

[Beret] is very right now in terms of understated allure. It’s the best way to extend the life of a blow-out while still conveying a sense of chic. – Vogue.com (read HERE)

Savvy Style Tip: Try a monochromatic outfit from head-to-toe and use accessories as your pop of color to pull off a playful yet chic ensemble.
