Transitional Pencil Skirts

The weather is a bit schizophrenic in Southern Cali. Warm, hot, chilly, rainy, sunny, breezy – all within the span of 5 days. So how does one dress, especially for the office before fully transitioning into Spring fashion mode? You can still wear your pencil skirts from last fall. Remember the one’s I told you to add to your wardrobe? Yeah, those. Quite frankly, I don’t care what season it is, I’ll wear pencil skirts year round. Opt for high waisted, that way you can have fun wearing cropped tops without showing your midriff. Yes, full figured gals can pull this look off too, so don’t be shy.

Below are a few savvy styling tips on how to wear your pencil skirts during this transitional time before spring hits.

Because we are on the heels (no pun intended) of festival time, like Coachella – I wanted to show how you can incorporate this festival chic style into your work wardrobe without getting sent home to change because of too much fringe, sheer and holy bottoms. I call this first outfit Corporate Coachella, LOL. I used fringe and tassels in my earrings and bracelet, gladiator style heels (by ShoeDazzle), and a beaded aztec collar top paired with a snakeskin pencil skirt (Altuzarra for Target). Although my pieces have interesting details with a bohemian-eque flair, what makes this look perfect for the office is that my pieces are classic shapes. Imagine my crop top and pencil skirt in a solid color with my cream blazer. See what I mean? Now you’re back into safe style mode for the office.

This second transitional pencil skirt styling may appear to be toned down but it still has some subtleties that make it a fashion statement. Let’s start with my Zara vegan navy blue leather pencil skirt, still classy but has an edge to it. I paired a classic silk button down that has a bit of French whimsy (by Joe Fresh). Instead of tucking my shirt into the skirt, I tied it at the waist to give my body length and shape, allowing the pencil skirt to be the featured piece. In keeping with my elongating illusion, I paired pale pink Zara pumps with my outfit.
