Safari chic maybe touted as a trend right now but in my style book, it’s a classic. If you rewind back in movie history, starlets were dressed in this look for roles dating back to the 50’s. As we move forward in time, the Safari chic trend has made its appearance every decade.
Designers have put their modern twist on this trend but the timeless elements seem to stay intact. What are these style elements?
Let’s start with colors. You’ll see this trend in neutral shades of cream, khaki, olive green, taupe, brown and orange. Accessories are usually in gold hardware, amber bakelite or tortoise shell. Animal Prints (leopard, zebra, giraffe) are used not only with clothing but accessories and outerwear.
This was probably one of my favorite creative stories to produce because I wanted to shoot either at a Safari Park or in South Africa. But since I couldn’t swing those locations, I opted for an open field during magic hour and used Photoshop to add the wild animals.
I hope you enjoy this series as much as I do (and my mom who shot the photos). For outfit details, scroll to the bottom. A lot of pieces I’ve had owned already. I’m still “shopping my closet” and being savvy about style.
