DAY 27: Shop My Closet 365 Days Challenge

Mood: Refreshed

Weather: Sunny, warmer, slight breeze

Outfit Purpose: Out & About

Style Savvy: I typically refrain from dressing anything 80’s because I grew up in the eighties and some of the ensembles were horrific, especially the hair…yikes! I do like mixing in an 80’s vibe with my style from time-to-time but subtly. This Blumarine dress that I bought many years ago, I kept because I loved the fit of the dress and the hearts … not to mention that it was pretty pricey. To keep it looking chic and up-to-date I added my Paige Denim denim jacket, Jimmy Choo pumps, Banana Republic crocodile clutch, Vince Camuto chain bracelet, Nadri crystal rose gold hoop earrings, classic Timex watch and my aviator sunnies. As you can see, accessories can transform an old piece of clothing into something new so don’t be afraid to play with your accessories!

Personal Style: Modern 80’s Gal

What’s Going On With Me: This outfit photo shoot of the day was somewhat crazy. I had to park off a highly used, busy street during Friday rush hour and then try to cross the road while whizzing cars fly by with my camera operator (my mom). She’s the “operator” because I set up the shot and then she holds the camera and snaps the photos. We slipped between some barbed wire fencing that was surrounding this house to get as close as possible. Come to find out after we were done there was an opening, so we didn’t have to risk barbed wire after all. I saw this house awhile back and thought it would be so cool to use it as a backdrop for one of my photo shoots. I love that it’s pink and abandoned. My mom said that it’s being preserved because allegedly it’s a landmark of some sort.

Here’s my assessment of San Diego, well North County SD so far … it takes 20-30 minutes to get anywhere, the drivers on the road don’t pay attention and swerve into lanes or drive in between lanes a lot, there’s ample parking and it’s free (no more meter change), there’s more greenery and wide open landscapes and the population consists of elderly people and caucasians. That’s just my observation from living here consistently for the past month. In a few more days I’ll be traveling back to Santa Monica to visit my friends and can’t wait! Since I’ve been shifting my perception over the past couple of days about love, life and everything in between – I feel refreshed and anew. It’s a good feeling.

Thoughts: Be with someone who is proud to be with you. I saw this quote floating around Facebook the other day. Don’t waste your time with someone who doesn’t support you in every way and says to you often, “You’re amazing and I’m so proud to be with you.”

I thought I had this with my ex-husband because he talked me up to outsiders and friends all the time. The thing that didn’t add up was that he wouldn’t tell me personally all those wonderful accolades. I’d get the, “You’re so hot” comment most of the time (which was a good ego boost) or “You’re so smart I don’t understand why you’re not working in a corporate environment.” That comment always stung because I’ve done that job and expressed how it’s just not me. Thinking back now, he really didn’t get who I am and maybe that’s why he never said to me, “Baby, I’m so proud to be with you.”
