DAY 6: Shop My Closet 365 Days Challenge

Mood: Restless

Weather: Warm, sunny

Purpose: Need an outfit to suit this weather that will take me from day to night for a casual dinner with new friends in Carlsbad.

Style Savvy: I know it can get tricky pairing prints, patterns and colors with separates that’s why many designers are making it easier for you. Take this BCBG Max Azria dress from their spring/summer 2013 runway collection. It combines interesting textures materials and colors into one piece, that way you don’t have to ask yourself, “Does this match?” I’m a big fan of metallic shoes in every shade from gold, silver, gunmetal, etc. These Sam Edelman gladiator sandals are one of my go-to’s for summer (from last summer to this summer). A staple item that every woman should have in her closet. To make this dress more glam for evening, I would pair it with an amazing high heel either in neon yellow or teal green to pick up the colors in the dress. OR a white snakeskin high heel that has shades of gray … ooh la la. Damn! I do not have this shoe in my wardrobe! It constitutes as a primary piece but I’ll make do with what I have.

Personal Style: This dress speaks to my glam world traveler side. Easy to wear, super comfortable, colorful and chic. I’ve been eyeing dresses from BCBG’s runway collection for awhile. Unfortunately these runway collection dresses have a high price tag. So I waited and waited and then got lucky at the BCBG outlet store in Carlsbad when they had an extra percentage off of the sale price off of another percentage. Let’s just say, I got a savvy deal for a piece I know I’ll fancy years to come.

What’s Going On With Me: I’m still in a bit of a funk. I miss my girlfriends and my life back in Santa Monica/Los Angeles. Although I speak and text with my gals throughout the week, it’s not the same. I miss my place that I lived in with my soon-to-be ex-husband. It was home for me and I spent a lot time and effort fixing it up and decorating it. Since I’m feeling like I’m “missing” significant parts of my life, I have the “itch” to shop today. Although I’m not going to, I have been looking online but just looking. This is the time when I really need to “shop my closet” and look at pieces I tend to skip over.

Some of you may wonder how I’m being accountable during this challenge? If I were to fall off the wagon, I would only be hurting and disappointing myself and that self-guilt is the worst feeling ever … so there’s that. Also, since I’m living with my mom right now, she’s also my witness and is doing the challenge with me. She’s kind of a shopaholic too with fast fashion. Funny, after spewing my truth here, I feel better and not so much in a funk anymore. Have a good weekend! XO, Maria
