Mood: Questionable
Weather: Ridiculously Hot
Outfit Purpose: Celebratory (event or cocktail attire)
Style Savvy: Pulling together a head-to-toe evening look for a special occasion with all the accessories can get tricky for some. You want to make sure that your hair style and accessories complement the dress and not over power it. If you’re wearing an updo, go for big sparkly chandelier earrings and minus the necklace. Instead play up the arm candy with a nice statement bracelet and oversized cocktail ring like I did with my Halston Heritage halter column dress and Gucci heels (worn on Day 8 here). If you do choose to wear a beloved statement necklace, then minus the earrings or wear small diamond or pearl studs. ** Tutorial on how to create a bun like I have in these photos, out of a sock no less – view here.
Personal Style: Red Carpet Ready
What’s Going On With Me: Today I’m celebrating 60 Days of Shopping My Closet in red carpet style! I wanted to do something special and since I don’t really have any glamorous events coming up where I can don my fave evening attire, why not rock it out during my challenge? I did stir a little crowd of people on Cedros Avenue in Solana Beach while taking these photos. They probably thought I was doing something creative for someone’s 60th birthday because of the balloons. Nope, just celebrating 60 days of this challenge. I love how the tagline on the balloons read, “The party still continues…” so apropos!
So how does it feel after 60 days of no shopping? It’s not too shabby. The only thing that drives me squirrely is seeing all the new fall/winter collections coming out and also some great brand collabs that I wouldn’t mind owning as well. I feel like I’m going to miss out on everything fashionable this year. But realistically I’m not. I have invested in sober, key, quality pieces over the years which will carry me into more years. That’s one of the things I wanted to convey during this challenge to the woman out there who have a hard time with fashion and shopping. True we all want a deal, I know I do, but we want to make smart investments as well.
On the personal front, this challenge has allowed me to get through a tough time in my life and make lemonade out of lemons. It’s not easy keeping up this column on a daily basis and being very transparent. I do have some “haters” but hey at least people are reading this and it’s striking a feeling whether it’s good or bad. I hope I can continue to inspire the women out there who enjoy this column, showing that you can take something negative in your life and turn it into something amazing and wonderful.
Thoughts: Keep it light. I seriously need this to chime as my alarm saying every few hours throughout the day.
