Russell Brand and Viola Davis sharing a hug on the red carpet.
I’m truly grateful to be one of the board of directors for an amazing charity in Los Angeles – Friendly House LA. Each year we hold a luncheon at the Beverly Hilton Hotel honoring three people in the categories of Excellence, Humanitarian and Woman or Man of the Year. This year on October 27th, we were proud to have Russell Brand our 2011 Man of the Year, host the entire event. Viola Davis accepted the Woman of the Year award with a heartfelt and humble speech that left no eye dry.
Founded in 1951, Friendly House LA is the oldest women’s recovery home in the US, providing a safe harbor for women suffering from the destruction of alcoholism and drug abuse, and has earned a world renowned reputation as the model for successful recovery. Friendly House has provided services for thousands of women with a success rate of over 76%, compared to the hospital average of 35%. The organization is fully funded by donations, grants and it’s annual luncheon. If you would like to read more about Friendly House or how to get involved, click here.
