Shop My Closet: Faux Leather Shorts

Mood: Joyous

Weather: Warm with a cool breeze. Basically perfect.

Style Savvy: I bought these faux leather aka vegan leather aka pleather high-waisted shorts at the end of Fall last year (2017) from Zara. I bought the shorts due to a last minute event invite and couldn’t go home to change. I’m actually not a “shorts” wearing gal, so this was really an impulse purchase. But I know that you can never go wrong with high-waisted and black “leather”, making this a savvy buy.

Here’s the challenge. These shorts have been hanging in my closet for about 5 months. I recently took them out to style for a work/date night look. They sat unworn again for another month. I really wanted to challenge myself to style these shorts at least 3 different ways. Below you’ll see my event look, work/date night look and weekend oufit. I hope this gives you inspiration to style those pieces in your closet that haven’t been worn in awhile.

What’s Going On: There’s seriously so much going on in my life right now that I literally have to take it one day at a time. I have soon-to-be in-laws coming to stay with us for 3 months. My fiance’s father has cancer and we’re helping him kick start his treatment. We’ve only been living in our new home for 3 months, so we’ve been trying to get a lot done before his parents arrive.

I’ve been trying to grow my content creating business and have an assistant and an intern. They are helpful but I’m realizing I need assistants who are more experienced in a few areas. I love training and mentoring but I could use help where I don’t have to be the one thinking and implementing everything.

Also, waiting for checks and chasing for checks sucks. In the blogger/influencer business payment for work is either net 30 or 45 days. Some companies don’t pay until after 60 days of your work being posted. It’s really frustrating since we have to plan what we are creating, then set up the time to shoot, edit everything and send over for approval. After approval, we’ll post the partnered content on a scheduled day, do a ton of our own marketing and then submit an invoice for all the work.

Then we wait. Tick, tock, tick, tock. Sometimes payments are late too or they never show up and you have to constantly bug the company for payment. I’m not sure how to crack down on this. Am I the only blogger dealing with this? Some of us are full-time bloggers/influencers, like myself. I have bills to pay like everyone else. So when payment doesn’t show up on-time or show up period, it’s disheartening.

Sorry, had to vent. This is probably of no interest to you but maybe gives you insight to what I do for a living. Yes, I’m still a stylist but do it for my blog and social media platforms. On occasion I still work with a few magazines and clients but that’s not my regular gig and source of income. AND I wouldn’t even have this cool, creative business without your support by reading my blog, commenting and engaging with me on my social media pages. A VERY BIG THANK YOU to YOU!!
