Shop My Closet: Polka Dots for Spring

Today I’m starting up an old format for writing that I used with my Shop My Closet Challenge column. I found that most of my readers/followers loved this diary format. The one thing that pops up daily in my “remember when” Facebook feed are my Shop My Closet posts. I’ve clicked on them recently and missed writing this way. With that said, moving forward I’ll be sharing how I shop my closet while adding new pieces each season to mix and match with my existing wardrobe. I’ll also link back to pieces I still wear today that I’ve featured here on my blog from previous years. Enjoy!

Mood: Inspired

Weather: Cloudy, breezy, slight chill

Outfit Purpose: Out & About

Style Savvy: Today’s look is a nod to a few classic staples from wrap dresses to polka dot prints and basket bags. This Spring designers and brands are going back to some classic color combos like black & white (hello, did that ever go out of style?), polka dots, gingham and stripes … all in black & white. This makes me laugh a bit because black/white, polka dots, stripes and gingham are always in fashion, ESPECIALLY during spring and summer. But for some reason, this Spring was designated to these “trends”.

For the many ladies who still ask me, “What should I buy this season?” This polka dot dress by White House Black Market (shop HERE) is one of my top picks for sure. This faux wrap high-low maxi dress is flattering on all figures. Best part, there’s a slip dress underneath with a lace trim hem that you can wear on it’s own. AND I’ll show you how next week. So sign up for my emails (below) that way you don’t miss any posts here.

With this dress I decided to pair a yellow heel (shop HERE) from Who What Wear x Target collection to add some color. Don’t forget accessories are a girl’s best friend, so invest in some jewelry you can layer. Also another bag trend not going away from last year is the basket bag. I found this bag randomly at a boutique in La Jolla for $35.

Personal Style: Parisian Chic

What’s Going On: Here’s the brief catch up if you don’t follow me on Instagram (why not? btw… @savvynista). My fiancé and I bought a home in San Diego. It’s an expansive piece of property and we’ve been here for a month now. I had to leave my cat Hurley with my mom because my fiancé was getting allergic skin reactions all over for the past year (eek) and all the creams/medicines weren’t helping. We first thought it was a skin thing but found out it’s cat allergies. Now that we’ve been in our new home for a month, we realized it’s too hard not having our furry boy with us. So he’s here, YAY! He’s getting used to his new home, running all around the house and enjoying our deck. My fiancé is going to try allergy shots and see how it helps. Crossing our fingers.

Today, my face is recovering from an allergic reaction to a new product I tried two days ago. WTF?! Allergies galore over here in this household. Geez. My eyes had basically swollen almost shut and the rest of my face was super puffy. It’s gone down with the help of allergy pills, cold compress and resting in bed. My eyes still itch a bit and have a small amount of swelling. Honestly I don’t know what product it was.

I tried three new things, a face serum, eyelash primer/mascara and face primer/bronzer. This is truly the pit falls of being a lifestyle blogger testing out new beauty products. I haven’t had anything get to me this badly yet. I did have a reaction to a concealer a few years ago but it wasn’t this extreme.

As far as my professional status, some of you have asked. I’m a part-time fashion stylist/consultant and a full-time blogger/influencer. It used to be the other way around. I’ve kept a few on-going clients/projects for styling mainly because of the creative team I get to work with. I still love the content we produce together and it’s so rewarding to say “it’s a wrap”. Being on-set for a TV news segment or on-location for a magazine shoot always gets my creativity flowing and gives me that extra motivational punch I need for the week. It’s also nice when I’m not the one that has to model outfits, like I do for my blog or Instagram. Okay, this post is long enough. Until next time…be savvy, shop smart and stay stylish!
