Stripes are a classic staple in one’s wardrobe. Most women I know own at least two if not three striped pieces whether it’s a top, skirt or dress. Recently I’ve tried to get a couple of personal clients to try stripes. Believe it or not both said, “Oh I can’t wear stripes especially horizontally because it makes me look wider than I already am.” I’m here to tell you this statement is false. Stripes come in various widths, color combos and space between each stripe. Thinner stripes work well for curvy shapes. Actually wider stripes work on curvy girls if the stripes are in different color combinations of 3 or more and the stripes are spaced apart in various ratios to create dimension.
I feel a lot of us have this old tape running through our heads telling us to never try a certain print, pattern or cut. Most times than not, these old perceptions we have aren’t true. I have clients who have the best bodies and still think their butt looks huge or their stomach pooches out. I have to set them straight and give them some style therapy. Especially when it comes to wearing stripes. I tell them that stripes actually hide all these alleged flaws.
Here’s some outfit inspiration on how to style stripes during the winter season and below my Top Picks for striped sweaters and jackets. Thanks for stopping by and don’t forget to follow me on Instagram @savvynista. Stay stylish, xo.
