5 Ways 5 Days Styling Culottes for Spring

Location: Del Mar, CA

Although us SoCalers are actually having a winter which is rare, I’m ready for Spring. It’s been fun layering and wearing warm cozy clothes but I miss my open-toe sandals, flowy dresses, lightweight pants and tops.

I hope you’ve been enjoying my 5 Ways 5 Days series. This is basically a very abbreviated version of my 365 Days Shop My Closet Challenge [see HERE]. I’ll take a couple of new pieces and style them with items I already own from my existing wardrobe.

Spring calls for lighter shades and airy pieces like this pink culotte by Milly. I’ve owned a pair of non-pleated H&M black culottes for about 4 years which I’ve worn to death. I definitely need to replace them.

Here’s the rule I go by when purchasing new pieces: I ask myself is this going to be a staple piece or a fun trendy purchase? This way my purchase is intentional. When I start to pick out pieces to try-on or buy online, I then ask myself, “Can I style this piece at least 3 different ways with items I already own?”

You’re probably wondering, what you should look for when buying staple pieces? I’ve got your answers in my Style Savvy Guide, download HERE.

Wearing a monochromatic look elongates your body, so if you think culottes will make you look shorter, then pair it with the same color top. Look Details | H&M Top [shop HERE], Milly Culotte [shop HERE], Vintage Fendi Baguette (old, from my closet), Ted Baker rose gold heels (sold out from Holiday 2018).

I took my first outfit and switched out a few things. I added a lightweight beige trench, blush boots, yellow tinted sunnies, and a clutch bag. Look Details |No. 21 Insta Handbag from Rent The Runway, Ro & De Trench from Nordstrom Rack (old, from my closet), Steve Madden boots (old, from my closet).

This 3rd look is for chillier nights during Spring. I paired a red off-the-shoulder sweater from H&M [shop HERE] I bought during the holidays, gold circular chandelier earrings from Baublebar (old, from my closet), red velvet kitten heels from Mango (old, from my closet) and No. 21 Insta clutch bag [rent HERE].

I love a stylish printed top especially button down and ties at the bottom. This blouse by MSGM has classic color combinations in a timeless nautical print. I’ve seen similar tops like this at Zara.

MSGM is known for more edgier street style, so this top was a bit of a surprise. I paired it with my Milly Culotte, Zara bag (might still be available) and Sam Edelman heels (old, from my closet). I think my sunnies are from TJ Maxx (bought recently).

Speaking of sunglasses. You can find so many stylish sunnies for great prices these days. Yes, it’s nice to have a couple of designer pairs but knowing how I am with glasses, I can either lose, damage or scratch them. I’ve done this with my Prada and Oliver Peoples sunglasses which really bummed me out.

My final look, I paired my Milly Culotte with a jacket by Marissa Webb [shop HERE] a designer in New York who used to be the Creative Director for Banana Republic. Her personal brand is a bit edgier than when she was overseeing design for BP.

I kept my Zara bag for this outfit and slipped my Steve Madden boots on again. BTW, these boots are OTK (over-the-knee), which keeps my legs warm for those chillier Spring days.

That’s all I’ve got for this 5 Ways 5 Days! I hope it inspires you to think outside the box when putting together your outfits for the week. If you’re NEW to Savvynista, signup for my email that way you don’t miss new posts, exclusive content and giveaways. xx, Maria
