DAY 10: Shop My Closet 365 Days Challenge

Mood: Perplexed

Weather: Cool breezes, warmish, slightly cooler

Purpose: Out and about.

Style Savvy: Boyfriend jeans are a girl’s best friend because you can style them so many different ways. I used my J Brand jeans as my foundation piece then styled around it. The second item I pulled out was this top by Tree that a girlfriend actually gave me a few years ago. To play up the feminine and soft feeling I was going for, I added my Christian Louboutin laced overlay kitten heels and a mandarin collared J. Crew jacket (both I’ve had for years). These pieces are still relevant today and have a timelessness about them. I kept my accessories simple because I had a lot of textures going on with this outfit.

Personal Style: Playing up my feminine chic Parisian street style.

What’s Going On With Me: As you can see from my “mood” I’m feeling perplexed. It’s because I checked my bank account and noticed I have a recurring monthly charge to ShoeMint for $79.98 that I completely didn’t notice until now. I called customer service and the rep said that once I made my first purchase from their site, I automatically agreed to be enrolled in their monthly membership. She explained it’s in writing all over their site and emails that I’ve received. For some reason, I thought they were one of the online shoe clubs that did away with the monthly membership. Since I haven’t bought shoes through their site in a few months, I have a credit of $156.96 to use. Here’s the dilemma…I can’t shop now because I’m doing this challenge!

I’ve been thinking of creative ways to use this credit and the first thought, with a little help from my mom, is to let my sister use the credit since she’s my hairstylist. Instead of giving her cash, I pay her in shoes. I told her to look online and see if she finds anything she likes. If she doesn’t, then I might do a giveaway on my blog. I did cancel my membership with ShoeMint so I won’t be charged again.

Thoughts: Always read the fine print! I’m usually a stickler for reading all the disclaimers before I purchase something but since I have been going through my marriage separation/divorce, I’ve been a little spaced out. Thank goodness I’m more “awake” now and paying attention again.
